Strategies in Developing Youth - Service Learning

Our Vision for Youth
Youth development can be understood as the active process by which young people are engaged, equipped and empowered to be active citizens in society. This is characterised by a purposeful strength-building approach. Rather than categorising young people according to their deficits, our model of youth development aims to build upon the creative capacities inherent within each young person. This is espoused in our five attributes of World-Ready Youth - youth with the values, outlook and skills to thrive and succeed in a global environment and yet maintain strong ties to their families, communities and nation :

Want more information on how youth can meet the challenges of this millennium and yet remain rooted to our nation? A Vision Task Force was thus set up in September 1998 to chart a direction for the local youth sector, so that the potential of young Singaporeans may be harnessed and maximised. The Task Force comprised selected National Youth Council members and dedicated indidividuals interested in youth development.

Here, NYC presents our Vision Report (February 2000).

NYC's Role In Nurturing World-Ready Youth

The NYC plays an active role in nurturing world-ready youth by increasing the capability of youth organisations through funding and other forms of support, in order that they might have a greater impact and outreach to youth.

The NYC also creates a supportive environment in which youth can participate in national education programmes, international exchanges, and projects that bring out the best in them and that benefit the community at the same time.
