Vision

The National Youth Council (NYC), a division of the People's Association, was set up by the Singapore Government on 1 November 1989 as the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs in Singapore.

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Development, Youth & Sports, is the Chairman of the Council. The Council comprises members from various government ministries, youth organisations, academic institutions, voluntary welfare organisations, the media and private sector organisations.

The NYC aims to develop a vibrant, highly connected and self-sustaining youth sector so as to nurture World-Ready Youth – youth with the values, outlook and skills to thrive and succeed in a global environment and maintain strong ties to their families, community and nation.

As the national co-ordinating body for youth affairs, the NYC:

(a) Develops youths through programming and funding, with focus on developing youth leadership in the community and increasing resilience among youths and youth-at-risk.

(b) Engages youths on multiple levels through creating access to both local and overseas opportunities to widen participation, increase social cohesion and cultivate rootedness.

(c) Engages the youth sector to increase connectivity for increased youth outreach, and to develop organisational capability to enhance programme effectiveness.

The NYC also supports the development of youth and youth sector organisations through research, publications, youth development tools and other resources. NYC is the administering body for the Singapore Youth Awards, Outstanding Youth in Education Award, and liaison body with ASEAN and International Organisations on youth development.
